When using a satellite dish smaller than 120cm

The best digital satellite receiver for use in the south of Spain and Portugal, if you can get hold of one, is the Panasonic DSB20. An old version but with an excellent noise threshold. The next ones are the DSB30 and 35 and last the Grundig GDS310. For receiving the north beam we used a 1.2 metre Channel master dish. We achieved good results around Puerta Banus with a Panasonic DSB20 and received all channels. Interesting the Panasonic DSB31 was hopeless, the Sport-Channels, Movie-Channels, Sky News and CNN were continuously breaking up. With the DSB30 we lost some channels part of the day, we assume this has to do with satellite wobble.

Service information for the Mobile-Sat 85 cm

In the event of a problem the following message may appear on the screen.

We advise not to apply an external PSU to the motors as the potentiometers could be damaged in the process. The warranty will be nil and void in such cases.

Other German fault descriptions re. the Micro-Sat analogue receiver may be found in the Grundig handbook.

Screen message should not exceed;

The controller can be reset by pressing SAT2 and speaker mute simultaneously (Grundig remote)

A fresh search can be activated by turning your ignition key to bring your dish down, turn off and then press any number on your remote to start a new search. In most cases there is no need to start the engine.

Search channels for the Mobile-Sat (Grundig analogue receiver)

It may be possible that these frequencies will have to be changed as and when channels disappear or move.Watch this space for eventual changes announced. The Mobile-Sat will not find the satellite if search channels or their replacements disappear, a new frequency may have to be stored to make it work again.

Digital upgrade

The early version Mobile-Sat, the one with the panel on the wall can be used to find the Digital satellite but only semi-automatic. First find the Astra satellite at 19.2 and move the dish horizontally 10 - 12 degrees to the east and vertical 3 - 4 degrees lower. We use a priority switch between the LNB and the two receivers for LNB switching. Use the signal strength indicator on your Di-Gi box to optimise. Press "Services"  "4" - "6". Voila.

User instructions for the CLEARVIEW-SAT 85

Remote functions for the positioner.

With the Grundig infra red remote control TP 716 SAT

Whilst holding down the button 'Sat 2' and pressing the direction buttons -, +, P + or P- you can change the viewing angle of the satellite dish.

The elevation (vertical) movement will be altered when pressing the P+ and P-. (Whilst holding down Sat2)

The azimuth (horizontal) movement will be altered when pressing the Volume - and + whereby the dish will move clock wise (west) when pressing the + button. (Whilst holding down Sat2)

The OK button functions as an auto-focus when a signal has been found, otherwise it will activate a search. (Whilst holding down Sat2)

The i button will show the current satellite-dish position for 5 seconds. (Whilst holding down Sat2)

In the event that the dish is hindered by an obstruction or encounters any other problem, pressing any of the - ,+ ,P+ or P- will make the satellite dish stop moving. (Whilst holding down Sat2)

Finding the ASTRA digital and analogue satellite.
Make sure that power is supplied to the positioner and satellite receiver.

Switch on the power, or when in stand-by, press any number on your Grundig remote control. Check the mouse red light is on. Please wait! Do not touch your Grundig remote control whilst the system is searching!!

When the system stops searching it will be locked on the Sky digital satellite, the Digital Astra satellite is stored as "SAT2/ 2". At the same time it will have stored Astra analogue as "SAT2/ 1" This means that you can move between the two satellites by holding down the SAT2 button and press either 1 or 2. You should only switch on your Digital receiver when the dish is locked on the Digital satellite.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR DIGITAL BOX IS SWITCHED OFF DURING THE SATELLITE SEARCH!!!! It does not assist the search. Switch it off when selecting Astra analogue or Hot-Bird after the search. !!!!IMPORTANT!!!!

Finding the Hot-Bird satellite

For Hot-Bird first select "63" on your Grundig Remote (RTP), wait for the blue screen to disappear, then whilst pressing "SAT2" on the Grundig remote press "3". The dish will now move to the Hot-Bird satellite and fine focus automatically, after which the position is stored as "Sat 2/ 3". Please note, do not hold the buttons down continuously but only press briefly than let go. After this first search it will automatically move from one satellite to another when pressing SAT2 with either 1,2 or 3. Please note that when you select a channel which is programmed for another satellite than it will make no sense what you get. This procedure has to be repeated when moving to a new location.

Dish gets stuck, will not move

(Fehler..., is in the wrong position or any other problem!
To over ride the movement or to let it finish what it is supposed to do, whilst holding down "SAT2" press the "Speaker Mute", than release both. This may be necessary if you have made a mistake or if the system is not functioning properly. A gust of wind may stop the dish also, whilst searching.

Stowing away

Before you set of for the next journey switch off your satellite receiver/ decoder. (Power toggle switch) If you leave the system in stand-by, (by switching the receiver off via the Grundig remote control, red button) your dish may rise when you switch off your engine and accidentally touch the remote control (In a petrol station).

Miscellaneous satellite search

Many other satellites are in orbit and some of you may be curious or interested to receive channels not mentioned. It is very difficult to make up an instruction which will last for the months or years to come, as satellite technology changes so rapidly. It is up to the individual to understand and read up how satellites work and how they are situated in space. After that it will be easy to explore space. Most satellites use the same frequencies which makes it possible for the satellite dish on your roof to park on the wrong satellite. Find a unique frequency, or near enough, not used by another satellite and the dish will find it every time, NO FAIL!

Weak signals (In Portugal or Greece) can be improved on by pressing the DX button (- or +), select thresh-hold 1, 2 or 3 with the Volume - or + on the Grundig remote control. Store (OK) if required. Please note that when the signal is normal the thresh-hold extender will make the picture inferior. The DX thresh-hold extender feature is per channel! For further information please consult your Grundig instruction book. (Grundig analogue receiver only, this does not relate to your digital box)

Finally; PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE CHANNELS OR USE YOUR REMOTE CONTROL IN ANY WAY WHILST THE SYSTEM IS AUTO-SEARCHING!!

Starting the engine will bring the dish down to it's stow away position. We do advice you not to use this feature to bring the dish down, this feature is for safety only, in case you forgot! Follow the instructions as described above, switch the system off and check that the dish is down before you go, especially the first couple of weeks.

In case you have your leisure batteries replaced or solar panels fitted, make sure that you immobilise all your electronics in your motor-home first and cover the solar panels. The dealers do forget as well!

Any damage coursed by this is not covered by our warranty. Non regulated solar panels supply in excess of 20 Volts whilst disconnected from the batteries!!

PLEASE DO NOT USE THE DISH IN GALE FORCE WINDS!!

Important notes;

Satellite channels on Astra Analogue; 1 - 43

Satellite channels on Astra Digital; Digital box only

Satellite channels on Hot-Bird; 44 - 75

Radio channels 151 - 199

READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST, VERY IMPORTANT! THE MOBILE-SAT NEEDS AN OPERATOR WHO UNDERSTANDS HOW TO WORK IT.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THE DIGITAL SATELLITE RECEIVER IS SWITCHED OFF WHILST THE DISH IS SEARCHING, (RED LIGHT ON)

PROVIDING YOU DO NOT MOVE, AFTER THE INITIAL FIRST SEARCH, THE DISH WILL LOCK ON EVERY TIME YOU BRING IT DOWN AND UP AS IT KNOWS WHERE THE SATELLITE IS. THE DIGITAL RECEIVER CAN BE SWITCHED ON IMMEDIATELY THE SECOND TIME.

MAKE SURE THE SATELLITE DISH IS DOWN BEFORE YOU LEAVE.

THE DISH NEEDS A CLEAR LINE OF SIGHT TO RECEIVE THE SATELLITE SIGNALS. TREES, BUILDINGS ETC WILL PREVENT THE SYSTEM TO FIND ANY SIGNALS.

DIGITAL SATELLITE RECEPTION CAN BE VERY CRITICAL, ESPECIALLY FURTHER SOUTH (SPAIN ETC) ADJUSTING THE LNB ON THE DISH (SKEW) MAY IMPROVE THE SIGNAL QUALITY. (South of Spain and Portugal app. 7-8 minutes to twelve, looking towards the satellite)

(Reception in Southern Europe)

AT PRESENT ITV,CH4,CH5, MOVIES, SPORT ETC. CANNOT BE  RECEIVED IN SOUTHERN EUROPE WITH AN 88 CM SATELLITE DISH. THE SOUTH BEAM CHANNELS CAN BE RECEIVED BY SETTING THE DEFAULT FREQUENCY AS DETAILED BELOW (digital receiver only)

Back (top)

Default transponder frequency for Southern Europe;

When using a satellite dish smaller than 120cm

Please do as follows;

Press 'Services' - '4' (system set up) - '0 - 1 - select' - '2' (default transponder) - type in frequency '11954' - Polarisation 'H' (use down cursor to move down and left or right navigator cursor to change V to H) - move down to "save new setting" press select.

Upon return to northern Europe the system will automatically default back to the North-beam default transponder frequency.

SKY software, forced  download;

This is a very important procedure because if you have not used your Sky box for a long period of time you card may not work. Please carry out the instructions as detailed below.

Unplug from mains supply, whilst pressing back-up button on receiver plug back in to mains supply, keep button pressed until all lights come on and TV displays message "Do not disconnect from mains supply " release button and wait until lights go off and message disappears. Wait 30 seconds, press "Sky" to switch on again. Done.

When you get the message to phone a telephone number to upgrade after you have not used your Di-Gi box for a while, providing there is no problem with your account, leave the system running overnight and your card will be activated again in the morning.
